When the leaves are first coming out for the year they are at their most intense reddish purple

I have them as a listing

but once the cephalium starts growing (as this plant is just starting to do) it stops growing its green stem and only produces the head for the rest of its life

Over time the stem will get taller and taller and will branch from the base and occasionally from the stems themselves

This plant forms soft bendable branches with flaky bark and fleshy green leaves. Over time the base and the roots become large and swollen. When it gets larger you can raise the plant so that the upper parts of the roots are exposed, giving a very attractive caudiciform look (see last picture). The branches will become long and droopy, but you can prune it
