Native to South Africas arid regions, this caudiciform curiosity is named for its thick, woody baseor caudexwhich develops a rugged, elephant like texture over time. It looks more like a fossil or a desert artifact than something alive, but come fall, it sends out a twining, heart leaved vine that seems to emerge magically from its sculptural shell. This is a
